The Kranzler was a landmark of post-war Berlin, a favourite of American and British troops and supposedly also of spies, but mainly a place where Berliners drank coffee, ate ice cream and watched the world go by. It opened in this form in 1951, was rebuilt to a new design in 1957 and closed around 2000. The Kurfürstendamm is one of Berlin’s principal thoroughfares and the backdrop to the picture is the Kaiser Wilhelm Church. It was badly damaged in the war and part of what can be seen here was torn down during the 1950s. The poster was published by ZFV, the German Tourist Office, and printed by Meisenbach Riffarth & Co of Berlin. No photographer is credited.
