The artist who created this rich and colourful scene is not identified. The king carries a hunting hawk and beyond him knights on horseback are hunting deer with hounds. In the far background a jousting contest is under way. At the entrance to the palace, on the right, waits one of Henry’s queens. Scattered over the picture are birds – goldfinches, a kestrel, a jay and others. This was one of a series that included Charles II and St Paul’s Cathedral and George IV and Brighton Pavilion. They were published by the British Travel and Holidays Association and printed by Harrison & Sons Ltd.
