Background The composition is unusual and the location is not identified, but the palm tree, beach, sunbathers, blue sea and blue sky, with the backdrop of mountains, all say Riviera. Ronis (1910-2009), a friend and associate of Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Doisneau, was, among his other distinctions, the first French photographer to work for Life magazine. He is particularly known for his photographs of Paris and of the Côte d'Azur.
