Background
Falkland Palace was a favoured residence of Scots royalty from the 1450s. In this richly coloured work, Buckle shows the imposing medieval-style gatehouse that was added around 1540, with the striking extra detail of the very stylish couple bottom left. The poster was published by British Railways Scottish Region and printed by Stafford & Co of Netherfield, Nottingham. It dates from 1952 or after, since that was the year the National Trust took custodianship of the palace.
