Manchester, England, c 1950
AN ELEGANT original vintage poster for British Railways by the artist and architect Claude Buckle (1905-73), published between 1948 and 1955.
102cm x 63cm
Very good. Minor wear on margins. If you would like to know more please get in touch.
One of several 'Civic Centre' posters Buckle created for British Railways, this gives a view of Manchester Town Hall's 1930s Annexe, with the neo-Gothic spire of the Victorian Town Hall above and the curve of the Central Library on the left. Though it may appear to be a montage, it is a single view. The library, though more classical in style, is the work of the same architect as the Annexe, Vincent Harris. Printed by Baynard Press.
