Background
Marton (1912-1928), known both for portrait work and for street scenes, was himself a leading figure in the cultural life of wartime and post-war Paris. Artists at work are a world-famous feature of Place de Tertre and here we look past a painter at his easel and up at the domes of Sacré Coeur, with the awning of the La Bohème bar on the left. The poster was issued by France’s Direction Générale du Tourisme and printed by Les Fils de Victor Michel, Paris.
