Very good. We have recently had this poster expertly cleaned, conserved and backed on Japanese paper. Stains and foxing survive but on the margins. If you would like to know more please get in touch.
At this time Peugeot was principally a bicycle maker, based at its original home in the town of Valentigney in Doubs, eastern France. The cyclists' faces are reproduced from photographs and cycle historians have identified them as Ludovic Morin (front) and Paul Bourillon (rear). Both were active from the final years of the 19th century and were great rivals in single-seater racing. The colourful figures in the background are harder to identify. The poster was designed by L Berteault and printed by Compagnie Francaise des Papers Monnaie.
