Background
The text emphasises the scale, power and speed of the vessel. SS Normandie entered service with the French Line in 1935 and had a famous rivalry with the British Cunarder Queen Mary for the Blue Riband for the fastest ocean crossing. Normandie ceased operation with the outbreak of war in 1939 and was gutted by fire in New York harbour two years later. The credit is ‘Saussine editeur - Paris’.
