Background 'Metro-Land', a term coined in 1915 when the company launched its walkers' guides, became shorthand for an Arcadian world beyond the suburbs that railways brought into the commuter’s reach. This walk is from Great Missenden to Amersham and Chesham Bois. The Metropolitan, which had created the world’s first underground railway service in 1863, was absorbed by London Transport in 1933 and 'Metro-Land' was dropped two years later. Printed by Allen & Co.
