Rambles in Metro-Land, England, 1929?

A RARE original vintage poster issued by the Metropolitan Railway Company, probably in 1929, promoting walking guides to the region outside London that the company famously nicknamed 'Metro-Land'.

Size  100cm x 62cm

Condition  Very good. We have recently had this poster cleaned, conserved and backed on linen. If you would like to know more please get in touch

Background  'Metro-Land', a term coined in 1915 when the company launched its walkers' guides, became shorthand for an Arcadian world beyond the suburbs that railways brought into the commuter’s reach. This walk is from Great Missenden to Amersham and Chesham Bois. The Metropolitan, which had created the world’s first underground railway service in 1863, was absorbed by London Transport in 1933 and 'Metro-Land' was dropped two years later. Printed by Allen & Co.
