Background
Trained at Salford Art School, Eckersley produced posters for a broad range of clients in a distinctive style combining simplicity, bold use of colour and often ingenuity – as here, where the girl with pigtails, the ball and the resort’s name combine to make a single, charming image set against a background of yellow sand. Paignton is part of the coastline known as the English Riviera. This poster was published by British Railways Western Region and printed by Charles Read Ltd.
