Background Farleigh (1900-65) is best known for his book illustrations, in particular of works by D.H. Lawrence. As here, his work often evokes natural wildness. In this scene from Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor children disguised as fairies set upon Falstaff as part of a prank. The setting is Windsor Forest, now known as Windsor Great Park. The poster is undated but the slogan 'Clear and Correct Addressing Speeds Your Mail' is found on GPO posters around the year 1960. The GPO operated under that name until 1969.
