Blarney Castle, Ireland, 1960s

An original vintage poster from the Irish national tourist board, Bord Fáilte, showing one of the country's most famous landmarks, Blarney Castle in County Cork. The poster probably dates from the 1960s and the photograph is by the leading magazine photographer Elliott Erwitt of the Magnum agency.

Background Blarney Castle as it is seen here was built in the 15th century on the site of an older fortification. High on the battlements is the so-called Stone of Eloquence which, when kissed, is said to bestow the gift of fluent speech. Many thousands of tourists kiss it every year.
