Background The Wengernalp railway is a rack-and-pinion line that connects the towns of Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, passing through the famous resort of Wengen and, at the foot of the north face of the Eiger mountain, Kleine Scheidegg. En route it crosses the path of the Lauberhorn ski race. Ernst Hodel (1881-1955) was a well-known painter of Swiss mountain landscapes, and was also the son and namesake of a successful artist. Versions of this poster were produced in German and Italian.
