A FINE original vintage poster for a retrospective exhibition of works by British artist Francis Bacon (1909-1992) at the Grand Palais in Paris in 1971, featuring his work Study for Bullfight No.1.

Background  This Paris exhibition was a landmark for Bacon, a peak in his international reputation. The work chosen for the poster is one of a series painted in the late 1960s, reflecting the artist’s fascination for bullfighting. The poster’s designer, Gordon House (1932-2004), was a leading figure in his field who designed, for example, the Beatles’ White Album.
