Iran: King Shapur Sculpture, Naqsh-e Rustam, 1960s
A DRAMATIC original vintage poster showing one of the famous rock sculptures of Naqsh-e Rustam in southern Iran. King Shapur I of Iran, also known as Shapur the Great, is depicted after his victory over the Romans at Edessa in 260 AD.

Background Naqsh-eRustam, the burial site of several Persian monarchs including Darius I and Xerxes I, lies near the ancient capital city of Persepolis. There are many carvings, of which this is one of the later examples, showing Shapur on horseback with two Roman emperors paying him tribute while a third lies dead at his horse's feet.
