An original vintage poster for a production of the play by John Millington Synge at the National Theatre in London in 1976, featuring a version of an illustration by Jack Yeats from about 1912, entitled 'Will He Catch Them?'

Background 'The Playboy of the Western World', first performed in Dublin in 1907, is regarded as a milestone in Irish drama. This production was directed by Bill Bryden, at the time a resident director at the National. Jack Yeats was a friend of the playwright and collaborated with him on a number of projects, including illustrating the published play text. Horse-races along Irish beaches are the theme of some of Yeats's best-known works.
