Background
‘Veduto del Porto e del Forte Michelangelo’ means 'Viiew of the port and Forte Michelangelo'. Civitavecchia lies 80km from Rome. This is the inner harbour. On the right is part of the Forte Michelangelo, built in 1537 by the architect Michelangelo Buonarrotti. The ship is the Tirrenian Line passenger vessel Citta di Napoli, which plied Mediterranean routes between 1962 and 1987. The poster was published by the provincial tourist authority of Rome and credited to Alfieri & Lacroix of Milan.
