AN EXQUISITE original vintage poster from 1960 featuring a painting by the celebrated Dutch-French artist Kees van Dongen (1877-1968).

Size 99cm x 62cm

Condition This poster is backed on linen. Small creases above the yellow parasol and above the word sun. Minor edge wear at top right and some discolouration close to the edge bottom left. If you would like to know more please get in touch. 

Background Van Dongen, in his early years an associate of Matisse and Picasso, is best known as a portraitist, but the Normandy resort of Deauville was a favourite haunt and he painted it many times. This work, 'Le Bar du Soleil' (The Bar of the Sun), was described by Sotheby's as ‘the most alluring and aspirational of images, a veritable cocktail party of fizz, colour and fresh sea air’.
