Background 'Revolution', a Chagall work of 1937, satirised the Russian Revolution as comic theatre or a circus act. The version used here bears the inscription bottom right: 'After Marc Chagall. Revolution (1933-50) Charles Sorlier Grav.' Sorlier, an engraver, was a close friend and collaborator of Chagall's.
