Background Dieuzaide (1921-2003) was a leading figure in French photography from the war until the early 1980s, much exhibited and published. Here he has captured the stony mountain village in painting-like style. The name Lescun is familiar to many children as the setting for Michael Morpurgo's novel Waiting for Anya, now a film. The highest peak in the Cirque beyond is the Pic d'Anie (2,504m).
