Saint Germain des Prés, Paris, late 1950s
A HANDSOME original vintage poster from the late 1950s of the church and square of Saint Germain des Prés in Paris – at a time when this part of the Latin Quarter was the heart of Europe's intellectual life.
98cm x 64cm
We have recently had this poster expertly cleaned, conserved and backed on Japanese paper. Some discolouration and fold marks survive. Otherwise it is in good condition. If you would like to know more please get in touch.
The poster carries no credit for photography or printing. It is also undated, though the range of car models strongly suggests 1956-1960. The photograph, with the 12th century church tower on the right, appears to have been taken from the upper floor of a house on the corner of Rue Bonaparte. Clustered around this location are the famous cafés of the Left Bank, patronised in those years by the great French writers, artists, singers and philosophers of the day.
